No Day but Today

My mom has urged me repeatedly to read to my daughter (her apo), even as early as the time she was able to sit. She has told me to teach her to read…not just usual children’s story/picture books but written words! She gave us a book, “How to Teach Your Child to Read,” which I have yet to finish and learn to apply the techniques of making Gabbie able to read at a young age.

Reading should not be a tedious task. It involves a world of creativity and endless possibilities for both parent and child. A great read opens avenues of imagination, cultivates thought processes and enriches one’s interest in life and what it beholds. The first three years of life is very significant because of rapid brain development, hence the skill and love for reading may well be started early. Books can help our children develop a positive attitude especially the ones that teach moral lessons. These teach by example through the characters in their pages. As moms (parents), we are responsible for the foundation and inspiration of the life and (great) minds our kids develop.

Here are some good reads for you and your little one:

  • “Slide & Peek” text by Beth Howard
  • “Rainbow Fun” by Emily Hawkins
  • “Rainbow Fish” by Marcus Pfister
  • “The 7 Habits of Happy Kids” by Sean Covey

I started reading to my son when he was barely a year old. Now at five, he reads on his own before he sleeps. One of his favorites is "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" by Baeatrix Potter. It happened to be one of my favorites too when I was a kid. He also likes "Mama Loves You", "Are you Sleepy Yet, Petey" and "The Potty Book for boys".

hello ms. louise! i chanced upon your query...in case you still need your question answered, the book was authored by Caroline Stutson and illustrated by John Segal. I hope you find its simple yet sweet rhymes endearing.
